Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I mainly post about my sewing projects, as I’m building a colourful and comfortable everyday wardrobe suitable for a working mum of primary school children. I really love African wax fabric, so that features heavily. I also occassionally post about family life in Edinburgh and travel. Hope you have a nice stay!

Easter weekend at Lanrick treehouses

Easter weekend at Lanrick treehouses

I’m trying to get better at blogging non sewing things! Over the Easter weekend we went away to the Treehouses at Lanrick near Doune/Stirling. Ee’d initially intended to go abroad over Easter but every country/city we tried either had no good flights, or the flights were too expensive, or the accomodation was too expensive. So eventually we decided to go a bit splurgy near home. Dave and I had gone to this area around Callander on our own in the October break and the boys were keen to see all the things.

Mega post ahead!

Lanrick treehouses is an estate with a small number of treehouses - wooden houses on platforms in trees - and a cottage. We stayed in the cottage because it had a kids bedroom and the treehouses only have the one bedroom so adults would have to sleep on a sofa bed. the decor is the same though (and very nice) and both have outside copper baths.

The estate is pretty big, you can go for proper walks in it along the river, there’s lots of ruins dotted about. There’s meant to be otters living in the river although we didn’t see any.

Also because you’re miles from anything there is no light pollution and the stars are bright. I was excited to discover my ophone camera can actually handle it, even though while I was taking the picture it was just a black screen.

On the Saturday we headed into Callander and did the walk to Falls of Brackin. Dave and I had done this back in October, when there was a lot more water in the waterfall and the bridge was closed for refurbishment. I’m quite chuffed how we all accidentally matched our colours!

After that we went into the town for a mooch, lunch and cake at the Atrium, merigues after an endless queu at the Mhor bakery, and some yarn shopping at stitchcraft Callander for me. View from the bridge in the morning (grey) and the afternoon (sunny)

There were lots of bollards decorated with easter stuff in the square!

On Easter Sunday we had an egg hunt, went to Loch Earn, but didnt have enough time for a proper walk so the boys mainly just played in the Adventure playground there while I ran up as far up the hill as I could in 15 minutes. Then we had lunch at Mhor 84 and went back to the cottage for a walk on the estate and copper baths.

On the way home we stopped off at the blair Drummond safari park. I did not enjoy the ‘safari’ but at all, standing in a traffic jam with the animakls far away, basically. I just really don’t like cars! but otherwise it’s a fun zoo with an excellent playground! We particularly enjoyed the raptor bird show.

And that was it! A very enjoyable weekend!
