Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I mainly post about my sewing projects, as I’m building a colourful and comfortable everyday wardrobe suitable for a working mum of primary school children. I really love African wax fabric, so that features heavily. I also occassionally post about family life in Edinburgh and travel. Hope you have a nice stay!

In the Folds Flynn jacket

In the Folds Flynn jacket

I’m a big In the Folds fangirl and when she brought out the coat pattern I knew straight away I wanted to make it at some point. It’s similar to a lot of other oversized open jackets, but with a lot of extra details. Look at those lovely curved lines! And the box pleat! Anyway, I finally got round to it when Christine @mrs.f72 got rid of some ikea upholstery fabric. I am delighted with it.

I made a size E, which is what I’ve done in the other In the Folds patterns I made. I was swithering a bit as my bust measurement is actually in the size F now, but I’m glad I went with the E, it’s plenty big because it’s so oversized and I probably would even fit into the D comfortably.

I made a good start on this on a sewing day where so it didn’t feel like this took me too long, but it is fairly involved because of the bias bound seams, which took a long time (I also made metres and metres and metres of bias binding out of leftovers from my green rushcutter, much more than I needed, which did take forever), but. so. worth. it! Look look look how pretty - I had to put it on inside out:

The instructions are detailed and clear as with all ITF patterns, and I managed to cut everything properly it seems, everything fit, phew! And I learnt what hong hong seams are versus normal bias binding.

I didn’t make do any adjustments, and I dont think it needs any. It could maybe do with being a tiny but shorter so my hands reach the bottom of the pockets.

The pattern mentions the option to add a closure, I didn’t but I might still do. This is what it looks like if I hold it closed:

I don’t think I’ve got anything more to say, but I do still have quite a lot of different pictures left, so. Here’s a view of the lovely box pleat

Look how big it it:

I don’t think I will make another one of those, purely because a person only needs so many transitional coats, but this would be nice slightly less oversized in a lighter weight drapier fabric too. Maybe in a plain colour so you can see that lovely curved stye line better
