Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I mainly post about my sewing projects, as I’m building a colourful and comfortable everyday wardrobe suitable for a working mum of primary school children. I really love African wax fabric, so that features heavily. I also occassionally post about family life in Edinburgh and travel. Hope you have a nice stay!

Linen In The Folds Collins top

Linen In The Folds Collins top

Some sewing I did a while ago, and have worn lots, but hadn’t had a chance to photograph properly*. It’s a Collins top by In the Folds. I’ve been meaning to make this for ages (I’m particularly taken with the opposing stripes ones lots of people have made), but was worried as the front length is shorter than I’m not comfortable with. I ended up lengthening it by 15 cms, which took a while as the shape means you also have to add width. I’m pleased with it, this is a good length.

Size wise, I think I could have gone down one or maybe even two sizes, particularly looking at the back picture. Or maybe I could have just do the neckline from the smallest size, I’m not looking forward to redoing all that lengthening malarkey again!

The drafting is spot on, and the instructions are great, I am so impressed with In the Folds. I’m going to make the Flynn jacket soon, and she’s just announced she’s stopping the free patterns for Peppermint Magazine to focus on publishing more main line patterns, so I’m excited about that!

The fabric is a linen from Fabworks, it’s a nice weight, and feels great to wear. As you can see, it creases like anything, but that’s linen for you. I think if I do end up making another, I’ll try something a bit drapier to see what that looks like. Not probably til the spring though, need to focus on autumn sewing!

* in the end, these photos are kind of rubbish anyway, taken before I had my camera fixed (and before I even realised it was broken). I may decide to rephotograph, but for now that’ll do
