Deer and Doe Melilot shirt with short sleeves
I had this fabric from a while ago, I'd ordered for a big dress but ended up making myosotis dress without any of the ruffles so had a full 1.3 metres left. I'd tried to sell it on Vinted but no takers and when I made the long sleeve Melilot I realised that the short sleeve version only takes that much.
So that's what I did! No adjustments at all and it turns out that it's the sleeves and sleeve placket on this pattern that take the time, so this was sewn up very straightforwardly in a couple of sessions. Even the buttonholes went smoothly, had to redo only one out of ten.
I did have some issues again with the collar piece being far too long for the neckline, like a lot too long. which is confusing because if anything the neckline should have been too big, because I went on autopilot for a bit and sewed all the seams with 1cm instead of 1.5cm seam allowances. A cutting error I guess, but it's still confusing. I ended up taking out at least 3cms of length out of the collar piece to get it to match. Oh well!
I really like this fabric, the textured cotton from Minerva but I'm not sure I want to have both a shirt and a shirt dress in the same colour, so I think I will dye this navy along with some other stuff. But I might give it a few wears first!
