Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I mainly post about my sewing projects, as I’m building a colourful and comfortable everyday wardrobe suitable for a working mum of primary school children. I really love African wax fabric, so that features heavily. I also occassionally post about family life in Edinburgh and travel. Hope you have a nice stay!

Pyramis Top by Mama's Teddy Bear

Pyramis Top by Mama's Teddy Bear

I am the worlds slowest knitter, and then I finished this Pyramis top, at the start of the summer holidays when it was too hot to wear knitwear of any kind, even when it is floaty and made from silk yarn like this top. But now it’s autumn I’m bringing it out.

Pattern: Pyramis top by Mama’s Teddy Bear, I follow her on instagram for some reason (I don’t follow a lot of knitting designers) and bought it on impulse when it was new and there was an introductory offer.

Construction: It’s knit flat from left to right, and then seamed at the end and I cords added at the neck and sleeves It's really not that far off from being a rectangle with a slit in the middle, but there is some shaping round the neck and sleeves. There's also instructions for adjusting for larger busts, although I didn't do that, so can’t comment on what they do.

The instructions are very clear, and the whole thing is very straightforward, it's basically stockinette and garter stitch for the triangle, alternating between yarn colours. Its quite clear at all times where you are in the jumper. Apart from the I cord edging, I knit this entirely in conference calls, that's how easy it is.

Yarn: This is a summery pattern which calls for something non woolly, but also something with a bit of drape, or it would be very boxy. I went with Malabrigo Sussurro, which is a beautiful summer yarn that’s 50% silk, 25% linen and 25% wool. It's not cheap (I just checked how much I spent and eeek!) but it fits the requirements perfectly and is so lovely to touch. I used the water green and chrysocolla colours, 2 skeins of each - I didn't need it all.

Size: I made the size 4 according to my hip measurement. You can see its quite large, so you could size down easily. I like it like this though!

Adjustments: none. I wonder if it might be good to add an i cord edge round the bottom as well, as it’s not looking super smooth, but I hate picking up stitches with a passion, so the chances of that happening are not huge.

I probably won’t wear this on its own like here lots, it’s already starting to get too cold, but I think it will work great layered!
