Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I mainly post about my sewing projects, as I’m building a colourful and comfortable everyday wardrobe suitable for a working mum of primary school children. I really love African wax fabric, so that features heavily. I also occassionally post about family life in Edinburgh and travel. Hope you have a nice stay!

Davenport top hack

Davenport top hack

Just a quickie before and after today!

I made this Davenport top (a hack of the bodice of the Friday pattern company Davenport dress) years ago, in some really lovely, and fairly spendy, Irish linen. But I rarely wore this top for two reasons:

The elastic in the cuffs was a bit too tight to be fully comfortable

And

It was just a bit too short. Whenever I've turned a top pattern into a dress, I always make the waist too low, and in this case it's the opposite, I didn't lengthen it enough to match the long sleeves.

So I chopped off the sleeves! Just freestyled the sleeve length and this is my first go and I think it works. It's now a loose fitting boxy top, rather than a blouse, so the shorter length works better. Hopefully now I will wear it more and this lovely fabric will get the outings it deserves.

P.s. my hair looks better longer, right?
